The Deixis Press Weekly - Issue #18
A short one this week, and a late one …
Monday, 2 Aug - Friday, 6 Aug
Some weeks it just doesn’t make sense to do a day-by-day account.
I spent a lot of time fretting about my current “unavailability” issues; the problem seems to stem from Gardners. They claim that all POD books will trigger the same issue, but other POD titles don’t seem to have availability problems, so I’m thinking I’ve missed something in the way of selling/introducing myself to them. Maybe there’s a form I haven’t filled out, etc.
I also spent a lot of time just reading. I’m trying to be a good editor for Jessica Gregson—the problem is that she is a lot smarter and more talented than I am (this is not me looking for validation; it’s simply a fact that you will learn when you read her book), and her work is already stunning. My criticizing it would be a little like if I tried to “fix” one of Beyoncé’s dance routines.
I’ve also had the day-to-day admin of both work and life, with a little added spice thanks to a dodgy builder who seems to have taken the ££££ and run. If your gut tells you something is off, readers, even if you think you’ve mitigated all possible risk, trust that gut.
Just so you know, I don’t intend for this newsletter to be a week-by-week descent into pain and despair. Yes, I’m entering a time where these first two books are going out into the world alone, and I very much need them to have the best start possible. That’s a concern, for real. Everything else I’ve mentioned, though, is stuff I can deal with. So don’t worry. I’m not upset. I’m tired and ready for this weekend’s trip to Edinburgh, and I’m looking forward to next week’s work, which I believe will be more productive and less worrisome.
Yours,
Angel
